If you keeping up with some of my posts then you are aware that I dont really know where I am going. I dont have a plan. And I dont have a set of goals i want to follow. I have an idea of what I love and the general direction of where I am headed. But as many of you know plans and goals never really work out the way you think they will. Life will always take you through many turns, hoops, and even fire rings.
If you are like me (a 26 year old college graduate that has no idea how to "life") and you feel guilty (like I used to), I am here to tell you that there is no reason for that. Since the day you are born, or at least the moment you can communicate properly everyone always asks, what do you want to be when you grow up, what do you want to do when you grow up. Sadly ,and not so sadly, we all have an idea of what we want to do and who we want to be, but the reality is that it almost never happens. Why? because back then we do not understand what it takes to get there. We dont understand that if we truly want to get to that place there is a lot of hard work and planning to get there.
If any of you had a career day in high school then you must have gotten to choose which career you wanted to observe. Now while this is a good idea, I personally believe there should be a career week! At this point we are all kids, we do not understand what we are getting into, and we do not understand what it will be like to do the same thing for the rest of our lives. How could we be expected to try one thing and decide that is what we want to do with out even experiencing anything else.
We should get a chance to experience multiple fields of work to really get a feel for everything our minds are curious about. Back then I was sure I was going to become a doctor, my whole life I have wanted to help people. I wanted to be someone who could make others feel better and safe. As of today (obviously) that did not happen. For starters, career day was during my senior year, I had not put in the effort back then in school to become a doctor. I had not even comprehended the hard work it would take to get that kind of job. Now i am not blaming anyone but myself for that but it took me way too long to realize that my hard work should have started that first day of high school.
As of now, I have come to terms with the fact that will not happen for me and I am 100% okay with that because I have found other things I am passionate about. And I have come to realize that there is more than one way of helping people. Of course fashion is one of them, but I am about to embark on a new journey I am super excited about. Now some of you may not be religious, or maybe you are not even sure what you believe in anymore. I know for my husband he is kind of lost in that department. But for me I feel like god has always been guiding me towards this direction. Looking back every twist and every turn i have had in my life has always had a tie to herbs.
As you may have guessed,I am going back to school to become an herbalist. I decided to learn more about herbal medicine my last year of college and I have been working part time to save money to be able to attend this school, and this year it is finally happening. The reason I was able to get here is because of two books that really helped me. Now I have never been someone who likes self help books but these two books really got me on track back to accomplishing my dreams.
The first one is called You're Made for a God-Sized Dream. This is an amazing book, especially if you have a spiritual bond with god. It does not just focus of accomplishing your dream but it gets you thinking about what your dream really is. It works almost like a workbook, there are prompts and blanks that you have to fill in. I know a lot of people who read these types of books and just fill in the blanks in their head. I am here to tell you that if you do decide to try this, fill it in!!! It is completely different to think about your dream versus actually writing it down on paper and creating a plan. Many people work their butts off to get to where they thought they wanted to be, only to discover that it was not really what they wanted. This book really opens your mind up to all the possibilities there are in this world. Now I have a strong relationship with god, he helps me through my hard times however I understand if that it is not something everyone connects with. Which is why I love the second book as well.
The second book is called You are a Badass and it is just as amazing as the first. This book really encourages you to get off your butt and start doing what you are meant to be doing. It gets you thinking, and it pumps you up. It takes away the fear that stops you in your tracks when you are thinking about the dream life you want.
Neither of these books are like the typical self help books they do not feel like you are following some step by step process and they dont feel like homework that you just have to get done. With both of these I took my time reading it and just thinking about the points they made and how I could work them into my life.
If you are needing a little hope and support I really recommend these two books they are worth the read. It is easy to say, I waited to long, or think that your dream is crazy and unattainable. But we only have this life to live, and what is the point in living a life that you do not love. We are here for a purpose we just need to discover what it is. So dont be afraid to dream and dont be afraid to jump because you will always have something to catch you.
